Dr. Joseph Cordero brings more than 23 years of experience in public education and over a decade of successful service as an elementary school principal and district leader. Throughout his career, he has been committed to improving student achievement, developing teachers and leaders, advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion, and creating school communities where every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to succeed.

Most recently, Dr. Cordero served as Director of Elementary Education and Intervention, where he led districtwide initiatives in curriculum, assessment, intervention, and instructional improvement. His leadership has focused on using data to strengthen instruction, supporting professional learning, and building systems that ensure every decision is centered on what is best for students.

Dr. Cordero earned his Doctorate of Education degree from Kean University. He resides in Scotch Plains, New Jersey, and is the proud father of a son who is a rising high school senior.

Dr. Cordero is excited and honored to join the Rahway Public Schools family as the new Principal of Grover Cleveland Elementary School. He looks forward to meeting the dedicated staff, students, families, and community members, building strong relationships, and working collaboratively to support Rahway Public Schools' vision of a community built on diversity, learning, and leadership. He is proud to become part of the  #RahwayRocks and #RahwayRenaissance  tradition and is committed to ensuring that every student is known, every voice is valued, and students remain at the center of every decision made on their behalf.
